Krabi: Railay Beach
There are so many beautiful beaches in Thailand that it is difficult to decide which one we will choose when holidaying with our children. The Thai people are very family orientated and welcoming therefore whichever beach area we select we simply cannot go wrong. One of the most popular beach areas for families to visit is Krabi which is located in the south of Thailand. Krabi offers superb accommodation along with a whole host of activities for families to enjoy plus is a little quieter than Phuket offering a calmer alternative. The scenery of this island is one of the most beautiful in Thailand with limestone formations that can be seen in all directions.
Railay beach is a semi secluded beach near Ao Nang and is only reachable by boat. Spend the day on the luscious beach that boasts amazing white sands and a crystal-clear sea. The best time to visit the beach of Railay is from October through to April in order to avoid the stormy season. Koh Phangan: Haad Rin Beach
This island, located in the Gulf of Thailand is definitely the destination for those who love to party! Koh Phangan is home to Haad Rin Beach which hosts the world-famous Full Moon Party that younger travellers will not want to miss. The beach here boasts beautiful soft white sands and swaying palm trees, along with superb bars and clubs. The sunset in this area is simply amazing, while most visitors agree that taking part in the Full Moon Event is the experience of a life time for young party animals.
The islands two main beaches are Sunset Beach to the south and Sunrise Beach to the north of the island. The Full Moon Party takes place on Sunrise Beach every month. Koh Phangan can be reached by taking a short flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui then travel by taxi or ferry to Haad Rin Beach which takes approximately 20 minutes. When you are all partied out there are plenty of activities to enjoy here by exploring the rest of Koh Phangan. During the rest of the month, the party atmosphere is still prominent, so those looking for a quieter beach experience might want to steer clear.
Koh Kood Island Beaches
Koh Kood is in the south eastern part of Thailand near the maritime border with Cambodia. Those who really wish to get away from it all and enjoy a paradise in solitude will love it here. There is a speed boat service that links the island with the mainland and leaves promptly at 9am every day from Laem Sok Pier. A convenient ferry service also travels to the island in the afternoon for those who prefer a more leisurely journey. The beach here is stunning with crystal clear waters, while the island welcomes families and couples alike.
There are plenty of activities to join in if that’s what you want to do. Snorkelling, scuba diving, swimming and kayaking are very popular with the kids, while parents can enjoy lounging on the beach to take in the amazing scenery or book a relaxing massage. The island also boasts spectacular waterfalls, is great for a trek through the jungle and with quiet roads it’s easy to get around by scooter or on foot. Klong Chao beach is probably the busiest beach on the island with Ao Noi one of the quieter beaches that is very picturesque and only accessible via a dirt track. Set in a small bay the sands are whiter than white making this a fabulous getaway for visitors who want peace and quiet.
Koh Samui: Lamai Beach
Lamai Beach isn’t one of the quietest beaches, but it does have everything seekers of a fun packed holiday in paradise desire. The atmosphere on this beach is laid back even when busier, while the beach is considered one of the most beautiful on Koh Samui. White soft sands, beautiful scenery and clear blue waters for swimming and other activities are catered for here, while the south of the beach is the busiest area leaving the rockier north end calm and quiet for those who like a bit of peace and quiet. The northern end of the beach is also great for children as the water is shallower and there are rock pools for kids to play in and maybe catch a thing or two. Its only a short walk from the beach to get yourself a cool drink or something to eat, or maybe you can buy some fruit from one of the beach sellers who walk up and down the beach for your convenience.
Once the sun sets the place really comes alive with a range of bars restaurants and entertainment taking over from the hub bub of daytime activities. This area is the second largest in terms of visitors and activities on Koh Samui. Lamai Night Plaza which is a superb night market is also well worth visiting and is garnering quite a reputation when It comes to food and shopping. Another attraction close to the beach is Lamai Viewpoint that is great for taking photos of the scenery including amazing waterfalls.
Phuket: Karon Beach
Karon Beach is one of the longest beaches in Thailand being some three miles long. This makes it perfect for beach goers as it offers plenty of space even when busy. The town of Karon welcomes families, while the ocean in this area is superb for those who enjoy snorkelling, diving, parasailing and much more. The beach boasts panoramic views from all angles and with amazing white sand and plenty of cafes and restaurants close by your family day at the beach is a guaranteed success. There are umbrellas and chairs offered to rent for the day on the beach for your convenience, while even though the beach is close to amenities is doesn’t feel very urban at all and only takes a short walk to feel like you’re in paradise surrounded by beautiful tall trees and areas of grass.
There is plenty of sight seeing to do in the locality too with the amazing Karon Temple a must see. It is only a short walk from the beach, and you may even pass the temple as you make your way down there. It is not unusual to spot the monks tending the garden around the temple and the 2 huge snakes that adorn the main building are a sight to behold. The big Buddha is also a main feature of Karon and can be seen from the beach. Karon Beach for us is a great all-round winner that all age groups will appreciate, while superb transport links and amazing hotels will make your stay complete.
